One of the most exciting goals of PLANT AMERICA during this term is to plant red, white, and blue this spring and summer at the four thousand Blue and Gold Star Memorial Markers across the country in celebration of America’s 250th birthday on July 4, 2026! This effort, in collaboration with Keep America Beautiful, will not only beautify our communities but also honor those who have served our country.

A Message from NGC President, Donna Donnelly
December 22, 2025

Dear members,
As the holiday season approaches, in this first year of the 2025-2027 administration, I find myself reflecting on the spirit of giving and the joy of our NGC community. We have much to be grateful for, and it is thanks to your unwavering support and dedication that NGC can celebrate the success of fulfilling its mission during this season.
Traveling to state and regional meetings across the country has been wonderful, as I see the enthusiasm and dedication of members reflected in the National Garden Club’s programs and projects, which keep improving through your strong sense of community and environmental stewardship. This commitment motivates all members to connect with nature and one another. You may have noticed the new and improved website design, along with recent updates. It is now easier to find resources and participate in the events and programs that NGC offers!
Your recent generous contributions to the PLANT AMERICA Matching Grant program are bringing us closer to the $50,000 goal! Your donations allow NGC to offer grants to garden clubs supporting the NGC initiative PLANT AMERICA. The PLANT AMERICA/Keep America Beautiful program offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the matching grant and double your impact. I want to thank everyone who has already donated. The $50,000 goal is within reach, and if each garden club chips in a small amount, we will achieve it! Donations can be made by visiting the NGC website at www.gardenclub.org.
As you are aware, one incredible perk of your membership is the TNG magazine. The articles vividly highlight our gardening journey with sustainable practices, seasonal planting guides, innovative techniques, and inspiring garden designs. Whether you're an experienced gardener or just starting out, you are encouraged to share your unique insights, tips, and stories that reflect your passion for growing plants and nurturing landscapes. Your contributions will help create a lively community of gardening enthusiasts who celebrate gardening and conservation nationwide.
During this season of giving, let us continue to inspire one another and spread joy through our actions. Your passion and dedication to our mission make the friendships we build at NGC truly special and rewarding. Thank you for your hard work, generosity, and belief in the power of planting to create change. We have much to look forward to in the coming months.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and holiday season, filled with peace, warmth, and togetherness. May the New Year bring growth, both in our gardens and in our hearts. With sincere gratitude and appreciation for each of you,  Donna Donnelly, NGC President 2025-2027

A Message from NGC President, Donna Donnelly
November 25, 2025

Dear State Presidents, Region Directors and Club Members, Please read the following items:
 1.     As you know, the NGC PLANT AMERICA/Keep America Beautiful initiative is underway. It is a program that will have a nationwide impact, encouraging the planting of red, white, and blue at the approximately 4000 Blue and Gold Star Memorial Markers across the country to celebrate America's 250th birthday.
The project, which will culminate on July 4, 2026, aims to promote awareness of our patriots, environmental stewardship, and community beautification. There is a lot of excitement about it, as I have been discussing it at the NGC Region Meetings I attended over the last two months.
The project encourages all club members to participate in activities they would normally do during this historic 250th celebration of America, but now they can also apply for a grant of up to $1000 to fund their work. Keep America Beautiful also has a volunteer force you can work with, and this information is available on the website. If the club does not have a memorial marker in their town, they can plant the Town Hall flag or another visible patriotic site.
The project is educational and raises awareness not only of the Memorial Markers that honor our service men and women with great pride, but also about the historic 250th birthday of our freedom and the patriotic display of plant material used. The NGC website has all the information and the grant application ready to go. If you have any questions about the grant application, don't hesitate to get in touch with Val Story, Chairman – [email protected].
Good luck, and I anticipate a sea of RED, WHITE, and BLUE from coast to coast on July 4, 2026!

 2.     The next part of my message is the PLANT AMERICA Matching Grant Program. NGC has been very fortunate to have an excellent benefactor in Barbara Baker from Texas. She has donated $50,000 toward a matching grant to support PLANT AMERICA.
This program encourages planting trees and other plants that improve air quality, enhance biodiversity, support wildlife habitats, and improve the overall ecological health of our planet. It promotes community involvement and teamwork.
The matching funds double your donation, maximizing the impact of your gift! Essentially, your donation supports the legacy and sustainability of National Garden Clubs by creating green landscapes for future generations and encouraging long-term care for the environment.
The grant directly benefits your communities. By supporting the PLANT AMERICA Matching Grant Program, you contribute to a healthier, greener, and more sustainable future for your community. I ask every garden club president to encourage their club to donate $25 (or more) to this matching grant at https://www.plantamerica.org/
This is the best gift you can give, knowing your PLANT AMERICA contribution makes a difference and provides a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose for the environment!
Thank you in advance. You will receive a thank you from National Garden Clubs, and your club’s name will be posted on the website as a donor.

 3.     A very IMPORTANT NGC issue – NGC does not have your contact information! If you are not receiving the TNG (The National Gardener) magazine in your email inbox automatically each season, NGC does not know you exist!
Signing up for TNG also connects you to National Garden Clubs news and updates so that you will have access to the interesting articles, the NGC calendar for school information, and the video café that can feature programs for your clubs, and so much more! You can network with other states and clubs and share information.
The biggest asset is the TNG magazine itself. It features interesting articles by experts, offering tips and techniques for both novice and experienced readers. The TNG emphasizes the NGC mission of providing education, resources, and national networking opportunities for our members while promoting environmental stewardship and enhancing communities through gardening.
The information and the extraordinary layout are stimulating and motivating. You can also submit articles of interest. By subscribing, you support the mission and promote gardening and environmental awareness! The most important fact is that you will ENJOY reading the TNG!
Please take a few moments to go to the NGC website at https://gardenclub.org, scroll down to the very bottom of the page, and sign up with your email for free!

 4.     Please see the attachment for directions to the NGC Awards process from Marilyn McDonnell, Chairman. If you have any questions, please contact her at [email protected]
