Held at Vincent's Italian Cuisine in Metairie, Luncheon Chairman were Charlene Ardoin and Stephanie Kenning. A PowerPoint featuring activities of JPCGC was shown throughout the meeting.
Shelly Ferro of "Urban Tree" presented a program on the planting of small trees.
Shady Oaks Garden Club won the Club Achievement Award.
The Council's top award "the Marie Bradburn Individual Lifetime Achievement Award" was presented to Elizabeth McDougald.

The show was titled America 250 in honor of this year's celebration of 250 years of independence. Members entered categories of floral creativity, horticulture and photography. |
Margaret Seale, president of Colonial Garden Club, was the speaker at the April meeting of the JPCGC. Her very informative program was about the evolution of the earth and its creatures with the main topic being on saving species of the butterfly and moths. She had members assist her in the program by experimenting how different soils and plants pollute the earth. Following the program, she gave a handbook she'd made to each of them with all of her scientific knowledge in her program displayed.
The Jefferson Parish Council held its Memorial Service to honor members of families of garden clubs and also garden club members who passed away during the year.

The Jefferson Parish Council of Garden Clubs held a Memorial Service to honor members and family members who passed away during the year. Mistress of Ceremonies was Mary Crumb, president of Acres of Green Garden Club. She presented a yellow rose to someone who represented the family or the Club of the deceased. All present joined in prayer in remembrance of those being memorialized.

Several members of District II gathered for a concert at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters by Paul Soniat, former Director of the New Orleans Botanical Garden. Paul entertained the audience with songs written by him about the culture of New Orleans in his unique sound. He also invited all of us to an upcoming play that will feature these songs and more --

Co-presidents Elizabeth McDougald and Val Moscona, and Program Chairman Stephanie Kenning welcome the March Guest Speaker, Katherine Gividen, a Master Naturalist, who spoke on "Foraging for Food in Louisiana". She demonstrated all the weeds that are edible and even gave the members sips of tea made from a holly tree.

Jefferson Parish Council Meeting - January 2025
The Shady Oaks Garden Club was the host for the Jefferson Parish Council of Garden Clubs January meeting at the Lafreniere Park Foundation Center. Speakers were Stephanie Henning who spoke on Historical Trees and the importance of Arbor Day and Coleen Perilloux Landry who presented a Power Point show of her photographs of wild birds taken locally.
Donna Clark introduced the schedule for the Flower Show "Circus, Circus" which will be held April 5-6 at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters in City Park. She urged everyone to participate in floral design, horticulture or photography.
The co-presidents Val Moscana and Elizabeth McDougald gave reports on the successful and beautiful dedication of the Blue Star Marker at Bucktown Harbor earlier in the month. Coleen Landry told the group that the Jefferson Parish Council is the only group in the United States to install a Blue Star and a Gold Star Marker outside of the United States, referring to the 75th Anniversary of Normandy when JPCGC participated in ceremonies in Normandy to dedicate the Markers.
JPCGC members will hold a Field Trip in February to Mizell's Camellia Hill Nursery in Folsom.
