Members of the Abbeville Garden Club gathered on December 14, 2020 for the annual Christmas Social at the lovely home of Susan and Ed Wilhelm. Christmas Social Committee members hosting were Chairman Susan Wilhelm, Ed Wilhelm, Judge Edwards, Denise Files, Linda Hedio, and Juliette Dumond.
AGC members enjoyed a delightful evening, a wonderful meal, and participated in a lively gift exchange in a beautifully decorated atmosphere. They also participated in the “Spirit of Giving” by collecting donations for the Christian Service Center to be delivered by the Christmas Social Committee.

Abbeville Garden Club Members Attend LGCF District III Luncheon Meeting
Members of the Abbeville Garden Club attended the Louisiana Garden Club Federation District III Fall Luncheon Meeting, “Yesterday’s Treasures”, hosted by the Franklin Garden Club on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at The Forest Restaurant, Franklin, Louisiana. This important meeting included visiting representatives from ten of the eleven LGCF District III Clubs along with LGCF President Linda Finley and LGCF President Elect Roxanna Champagne.
LGCF District III Director Linda Brashier was the presiding officer. During the meeting, AGC Karen Hoyt was elected LGCF District III Treasurer for the 2021-2023 term of District Director Elect Versa Dore.
Guest speaker for the event was Garrie Landry, Botanist and Herbarium Curator for the Mcllhenny Company of Avery Island and co-author of “Acadiana Flora - Native and Naturalized Wood Plants of South Central Louisiana”. His presentation centered on “Heritage Plants of South Central Louisiana”.

Abbeville Garden Club October Meeting

The Abbeville Garden Club met at the LSU Ag Center Meeting Room in Abbeville on Monday, October 19, 2020. Hostess for the event was Susie Ledet. Co-hostesses were Odile Segrest and Karen Hoyt. Club President Marietta Clark presided over the meeting.
Lafayette Parish Master Gardeners and Abbeville Garden Club members Jeanell Duhon and Denise Files were the program speakers. The focus of the program was “Daylilies”. The presentation included information on the care of daylilies and the proper techniques for propagating daylilies.
The business meeting included reports and announcements concerning various AGC projects centered on the Club Motto: “Working Together for Community Beauty”. Ways and Means Chairman Liz Gremillion reported on the progress the AGC Annual Pansy Sale to be held November 20-21, 2020 at Magdalen Square. Gremillion also reported that the Abbeville Garden Club Garden Tour is scheduled for May 16, 2021. Funds from these projects are used for educational and beautification projects throughout our community. The Vermilion Parish Recycling Program was discussed along with the Household Hazardous Waste Day scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2020.
The next regular AGC meeting will take place on November 16, 2020, at the LSU Ag Center. Abbeville Garden Club is an affiliate of National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc., District III.
Abbeville Garden Club Holds First Meeting of 2020–2021 Club Year
The Abbeville Garden Club held the first meeting of its 2020-2021 club year at the Abbeville Event Center on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020. Co-hostesses for the event were Marrieta Clark and Patsy Hebert.
Yearbooks for the new club year were distributed to all members. President Marietta Clark reviewed the information concerning the various AGC committees and continuing projects. Programs for the new club year were reviewed by Vice President of Programs Susan DesOrmeaux. Vice President of Membership Susan Wilhelm discussed membership information. Patsy Hebert presented information concerning the new NGC website and National Garden Club Member Resources.
President Marietta Clark discussed the new AGC club logo featuring the Abbeville Red Iris which was designed for the club by Alison Miller of Alison Miller Design & Marketing Solutions. This logo can be used on signage, stationary, and clothing. New AGC formal shirts with the new embroidered logo by Stephanie Dartez with Maddie’s Creations were distributed to members. As part of the program, club members took part in a “Plant Swap”. Members exchanged plants which they had propagated and/or cared for. Information on plant name and care was provided with each plant. Members were excited to receive new plants to bring to their gardens.

Abbeville Garden Club Memorial Day Observance
Members of the Abbeville Garden Club and American Legion Post 29 gathered on Memorial Day, May 25, 2020, to honor all military personnel and their families for their service to our country. The ultimate sacrifice of those who have given their lives for our freedom was remembered. First responders, health care workers, essential workers, and victims of the Covid 19 virus were also recognized during the ceremony.
National Garden Week June 7 – 13, 2020
At the request of the Abbeville Garden Club, Mayor Mark Piazza signed a proclamation designating June 7 - 13, 2020, as National Garden Week in the City of Abbeville. Sponsored by National Garden Clubs, this is a special week designed to focus public attention on the, programs, projects, and activities promoted by garden clubs.
